Paris Hilton released from prison early due to "unspecified medical condition"

"Paris Hilton was released from jail early Thursday due to an unspecified medical condition after serving only three days of her sentence."

When I saw the headline I pictured Paris as Virgil in Take the Money and Run, calling for the jail guard, saying she needed to be taken to the infirmary because she's sick. "What's wrong?," the screw wants to know. The kvetchy reply? "Don't ask!"

World Water Day

Over 21% of children living in the developing world do not have access to clean water. On World Water Day, March 22, New York City restaurants will ask patrons to donate $1 for the tap water they usually drink for free. Donations will help UNICEF provide safe drinking water to children around the world. Visit tapproject.org to see the list of participating restaurants.

Or you could, you know, NOT go out to eat and donate to UNICEF the entire amount you would have spent on dinner. Just a thought...

All I wanted for Christmas was a pony...

Instead I got a little hoarse.

I should get me some Peruvian coca leaves.

You could give a little moist coca to world leaders suffering from hoarseness. You'll see how it cleans their throats.

Winner, Most Illogical Conclusion in Film

"We must be over the rainbow!"

And that was right after the remarkably astute "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

It also occurs to me that, in light of Glinda's remark that "Only bad witches are ugly," wasn't it kinda mean of her to ask Dorothy if she was a good witch or a bad witch?

From USA Today: Last year, The New YorkTimes reported a phenomenon in which heterosexual men were getting together for something other than business or sports, and it was dubbed a "man date." The Washington Post also examined the idea recently, calling heterosexual closeness a "male-ationship." Lately, the term "bromance" has been cited in the urban dictionary of slang for a friendship between "brothers."

Bromance? Male-ationship? Man date?

If only there was a word for someone you hang out and talk about stuff with.

READ MORE SUCK & BLOW STORIES

Suck & Blow is the “Next Generation of Shots” and is the hottest new sensation that is sweeping the nation.

Fun and EXTREMELY interactive, Suck and Blow is quickly becoming the favorite way to enjoy a gelatin shooter.

TubesWhy is it so much fun? Well, Suck and Blow is a gelatin shooter encased in a patented plastic tube and in order to enjoy this flirtatious shot, you’ll need a partner.

That’s right, it takes two to tango with this tasty treat. One person to “Suck” and another to “Blow”. It is the interaction of two people that make it so popular.

Great fun for BARS, CLUBS, LARGE PARTIES, or any SOCIAL GATHERING where adults mix and mingle, Suck and Blow is the one shooter that will have your customers and guests coming back for more.

And my favorite part:

Just love your product. My girlfriend purchased 25 suck and blow tubes for my 52nd birthday party and they were the hit of the event. All of my friends were fighting over them and my 70 + year old parents couldn't resist and ended up doing 10 between them throughout the evening. Totally hysterical. We've taken them to other parties since and they are always the center of attention. Keep up the good work. You guys really suck, or blow, or something.

My Jell-O Shot Recipe
3 oz. Jell-O (one 4-serving package) (I like orange)
6 oz. boiling water
2 oz. cold water
8 oz. vodka

Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water. Add cold water and vodka. Pour into shot glasses and refrigerate at least 4 hours, or until set. Makes 20 delicious shots that feel and taste much stronger than they are.

Here Brooklyn, take my money. No really, I insist!

I just did some autumn cleaning on my wallet and found two expired memberships that I purchased but never used: the Brooklyn Museum, and Celebrate Brooklyn.

I did go to Celebrate Brooklyn events in Prospect Park, like seeing Yo La Tengo's live score to Jean Painleve's beautiful, bizarre aquatic short films, but I never got there early enough to have to wait on the lines that I paid for the membership to avoid.

I purchased the Brooklyn Museum membership to skip the line at the Basquiat exhibit there last August. And I thought having the membership would encourage me to go more often, since going to museums is something I think I like and want to do more of. Perhaps I'm wrong about that.

I think the only thing that's clear is that I hate waiting on line.

Our Pet President

It's pretty sickening that Bush is here now, was here, in New York City, today, and will be tomorrow, September 11th, 2006, when he didn't drag his dumbfounded ass here until September 14th in 2001.

He shouldn't have come this year until September 14th either. He should have spent tomorrow at the Emma Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, reading My Pet Goat upside down.

I literally threw up when I read this

In an article about whether Sacha Baron Cohen's "Borat" is offensive, I found the use of the word "literally" in this sentence to be the most offensive thing.

"But in a world in which resurgent anti-Semitism has become — sometimes literally — an explosive topic, the movie may well hit a particular nerve, especially in Europe."

Don't blink.

I've been thinking recently about workers losing their jobs, being replaced by machines.

What about that machine that blows air in your eye to test for glaucoma? Did a human have that job before that was invented?

"There's only one surefire way to figure out who's rich and who's poor: If your name is on the front of the building where you work, you're rich. If you're name is on your desk, you're middle class. If your name is on your shirt, you're poor." ~~~ Rich Hall

Enviro-friendly, Enviro-meanie

2 Ways I’m Enviro-friendly

I recycle. In the summer I take recyclable iced coffee cups home with me rather than throw them away somewhere they won’t be recycled. And I usually bring a cup with me when going out for another.

I compost. This surprises even me. I actually keep fruit and veggie scraps in the freezer and ride my bike every week or so to the community garden to drop them off for composting.

2 Ways I’m Enviro-meanie

I flush the toilet approximately one million times a day.

And I keep the water running in the sink not only when I brush my teeth but when I pee, too. (So that’s not just enviro-meanie, it’s probably also a little bit obsessive compulsive.)

What should happen to people who don't pick up their dogs' shit?

a) They should have to pay a fine.
b) They should have to do community service, cleaning up other people's dogs' shit.
c) Their dogs should be taken away from them.
d) Their dogs should be shot right in front of them.

Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do" over "Stuck In The Middle With You"

Queen's "Under Pressure" over Vanilla's "Ice Ice Baby"

"Stand By Me" over "Every Breath You Take"

Stevie Nicks's "Stand Back" over Prince's "Little Red Corvette"

The Killers "Somebody Told Me" over the The Clash's "Rock The Casbah"

Madonna's "Ray of Light" over New Order's "Blue Monday"

Oasis' "Wonderwall" over Green Day's "Blvd of Broken Dreams"

Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" over Oasis' "Wonderwall"
(or Radiohead's "High and Dry")
over U2's "With or Without You"

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Under the Bridge" (or "Soul to Squeeze")
over Green Day's "When I Come Around"

Pinks "I'm Coming Out" over Bowie's "Let's Dance"

Bush's "Glycerine" or
Better Than Ezra's "Good" over U2's "With or Without You" (and vice versa)

Johnny O note: It should be noted that rapping "It's Your Birthday" over Nine Inch Nails "Closer" is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

I'd like to see some...

Commericals for things you can't buy, like trees, or honesty.

Brings Ya Back...

Elderly couple at home in their living room, sitting in adjacent comfy chairs. Wife is knitting, husband is reading the New York Times.

Husband: Says here in the paper heroin's popular again.

Wife: So the kiddies like the horse, do they?

H: Eh, yeah. Says too it's cheaper and up to 7 times more potent than the stuff in our day.

W: Longer high, is it?

H: Mmhmm.

W: Cheaper, didja say?

H: Mmhmm...

W: Hmm...

H: Hmm...

Drugs are good, m'kay?

In commercials for pharmaceuticals, I'd like to see a running list next to each actor/model of what pharmaceuticals they take in real life.

Daily Reproductive Health Report

Abortion-Rights Groups Criticize Bush Adviser for Statements About March for Women's Lives, Sept.11

Abortion-rights supporters on Tuesday criticized Karen Hughes -- one of President Bush's advisers -- for comments she made about the March for Women's Lives and Sept. 11 on Sunday during an appearance on CNN's "Late Edition," Reuters reports (Zabarenko, Reuters, 4/27). More than 500,000 people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday for the march, which was the first major abortion-rights rally in the district since 1992 and was inspired by a political climate that organizers say is threatening abortion rights more than ever before (Kaiser Daily Reproductive Health Report, 4/27). In response to "Late Edition" Host Wolf Blitzer's question about how important the abortion-rights issue would be for this year's presidential election, Hughes said, "I think after Sept. 11th the American people are valuing life more and realizing we need policies to value the dignity and worth of every life." She added that such policies are the "kind of policies that the American people can support, particularly at a time when we're facing an enemy, and really the fundamental difference between us and the terror network we fight is that we value every life." She said, "It's the founding conviction of our country, that we're endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, the right to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Hughes said that "our enemies in the terror network, as we're seeing repeatedly in the headlines these days, don't value any life, not even the innocent and not even their own" (Balz, Washington Post, 4/28).

...................................................................................................................

Valuing life more? FUCK YOU.

You value human life, do you? Like the lives of the Iraqis your administration has killed tens of thousands of?

We absolutely do not agree on the reasons and best method to reduce the number of abortions. Abstinence-only sexual education has got to go, because it in fact causes more unwanted pregnancies, and therefore MORE abortions. Parental consent and notification laws as a way of reducing the number of abortions is just sick, if that means that the parents will put undue pressure on a teenager or younger girl to carry a pregnancy to term and become a mother against her will.

Women must be allowed to decide for themselves whether or not to carry a particular pregnancy to term. Period. End.
